shoe

We can’t wear our heels in the office. That is something to shout about for me. I don’t like high heels coz it hurts my feet and my right tummy (due to some health problem that has not be identified till now!).

The employer did provide slippers for us but it is so not cool wearing rubber slippers with our office dress. So I got the above to replace my old ones which snaps while I was blogging in the office! :D

I got this tips in my email a few days ago.

Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy or Harimau Kuat Lemon. Set the dish on your porch, patio, picnic table, park bench, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate colour, or what. BUT … mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the
Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate.

I did not have any Lemon Fresh Joy or Harimau Kuat. I tried with my Lemon Dishmate but it did not work. I think it must be the strong lemon smell from Harimau Kuat that attracts the mosquitoes. If you have Harimau Kuat, do try it and let me know whether it works or not. I kept forgetting to buy the Harimau Kuat each time I went to shop. :)

A few of my friends only shop in boutique. They told me the reason doing so is that they won’t be seeing wearing the same item with other ladies. Ya, they are willing to pay the extras to be exclusive and of course for the quality of boutiques product. To those living in US and shop at boutiques, you might want to check out AshleysBoutique.com.

They sells inspired by handbags of Louis Vuitton, Coach, Prada, Gucci, etc. Besides handbags and purses, Ashley also sells sunglasses, clothing, jewelry, watches and accessories like key chain, key holder, hand band and even pet bag!

This is something that put a smile on my face. They accept International Orders!!! Yes, this is not for US only. The cost of shipping is about USD30 only and we can pay by Paypal. Unfortunately, due to high rates of fraud, they cannot accept any orders originating from Indonesia, The Philippines, Nigeria and a number of countries in the Middle East. We still can buy. ;)

My colleague just broke the news to me that her elder sister who is still single is going to treat her and their mother for a vacation in Melbourne in September. Her sister has a friend living there but she does not want to trouble her friend with their accommodation. So, she is asking my help to look Cheap Hotels in Melbourne.

That is so easy task for me because I blog about Accommodation in Melbourne a few times. I heard that her sister’s friend is living in St Kilda. That is just perfect. I found Melbourne Hotel in St Kilda that is offering as low as AUD65 per night. 3 stars some more! Hmm…I wonder whether she will be buy souvenir for me from Melbourne. :P

What is Latte?
icon1 miche | icon2 Etc | icon4 07 30th, 2007| icon3No Comments »

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “Latte”? All this while I taught it is coffee so I never try any beverage that has the word “Latte” on it because I don’t and cannot drink coffee. Yes, it is not coffee. The word “Latte” actually derives from the Italian word “Milk” but over the years this beverage has been served with more than just milk like coffee or chocolate.

I went shopping yesterday and saw that they are giving free sampling for the Nestle Iced Latte. Was tempted to try but I was shy to go ask for one. hehe.

At the shop, we got customers come to print and photocopy almost everyday. And most of the time the inkjet cartridge or the copier toner finishes without warning and most of the time, hubby couldn’t find time to travel to the computer shop to buy the replacement ink. Got to find supplier/s that delivers right to our doorstep without needing us to leave out seat. Not that we are lazy, it just that we are short of hands and time.

I found out that Inkers.biz is an online provider for toner, inkjet, & fax cartridge. They carry most of the major brands that you can think of and because they purchase them in huge volume direct from the manufacturer; their price is definitely cheaper than the rest. If you order more, you would be able to save more. When you spend $100, you will get a rebate rebate of $5 or spend $200 for a rebate of $10. If you are living in US, it is free UPS ground shipping for you. All of Inkers toner and ink cartridges are 100% guaranteed against defect for one full year and even have a thirty day no questions asked return policy.

One of hubby’s hobbies is collecting unique weapon, more of swords and knife. He is willing to spend any amount just to get them. The last time he bought them, the swords were held by the custom at the airport. He bought it online from US. He actually can go to claim it but he was lazy to drive all the way to KLIA and fill in forms plus explaining to the custom officer about the purchase in the swords. What a waste of money.

He has a few collectible items such as the nunchaku, sword, daggers, and katana in our room. He used to hang the sword on the wall but since the first child came into our life, we took it down. Accidents can happen any time, so we are not going to risk it.

If I tell hubby about Extremely-Sharp Swords and Knife. I am sure he will go crazy about it! This website sells all sorts of Swords, Knives, Martial Arts Equipment, Air Soft Guns, Armor, Batons, Blow Guns, Collectibles, Crossbows, Lock Picks, Self Defense, Throwing Stars and much more.

Besides selling the above they also have monthly contest and newsletter where you will get the chance to win some of the items displayed on their website. The newsletter also provides useful information such as tips for maintaining knives, self defense techniques, special recipes, special discounts and other updates.

If you experienced the above, you could have a serious eye problem. Don’t panic yet. Read on. The black dot is called Floaters. I just come to know about it after my colleague went to consult an eyes specialist to check on what went wrong. She has been seeing black dot for a few months already. Below info is what I read from the leaflet that she brought back from the clinic.

Floaters are small specks or clouds moving in your field of vision. They are actually tiny clumps of gel, the clear jelly-like fluid that fills the inside of your eye. They are actually floating inside your eye and what you see are its shadow.

The cause of it, aging. When people reach middle age, the vitreous gel may start to thicken or shrink, forming clumps or strands inside the eye.

Actually, 70% cases if floaters are harmless. My colleague is given an eye drop to make the gel shrink. To look up and down and from side to side if the floaters bothers her. It will move the floaters away from your line of vision. It won’t disappear completely though.

It becomes serious when the shrinking of the vitreous gel pulls away from the wall of the eye and causes the retina to tear. This will cause small amount of bleeding. It can lead to retinal detachment and blindness of left untreated. Treatment, laser treatment to seal the tear ASAP!

Last night when I told my eldest daughter to pick up her toys, she asked me when I will buy toys for her! I told her to wait as I am still searching for the best deal and whether to buy toys or books. I think book is better right? :) Another Michelle told me she just bought 2 sets of second books from US. Much cheaper to get it there than here. My uncle used to buy second books in container loads to sell them here, locally.

Barnes & Nobles
are having the Summer Clearance in which we can save up to 80% with the discount coupon. This is so much better than buying second hand books. I just noticed that if you become a member, you will be given another 50 cents discount. There is so many children’s book to choose from. Mostly $5.00 and below after discount. Most of my girl’s favorite are there too like Snow White, Elmo, Disney Princess and much more.

By the way, I found out about Barnes & Nobles Summer Clearance sales from webbyplanet. Webbyplanet is an online community that helps shoppers save money and make smart purchases. Besides helping you to find discount coupons, you can also find products, sales, special deals, reviews, and rebates from this website. Until today, they have over 5000 stores with over 100,000 coupons and deals.

My sister in law (hubby’s sister) is living in UK. Every since she work there and now have a family there, none of us visited her due to the expensive flight fare and hotel rooms. She has a very small house you see. Can’t fit all her 10 siblings plus their family!

We just got to know that she is diagnosed with breast cancer and she is going for mastectomy on 15th August. Mother in law is very worried about her. I wish I can fly her there to see her daughter or maybe some of us can sacrifice some of our saving to visit her. I found a website that has the directory for Cheap Hotels in London. I am not so sure where she live, maybe in Derby. Heritage Hotel Derby offering USD74 per night. Affordable right? Maybe after visiting her, we can tour UK. Hotels in Manchester offers as low as GBP30 per night. Anyone wanna go? :D

My Sambal Belacan
icon1 miche | icon2 Recipe | icon4 07 28th, 2007| icon3No Comments »

sambal belacan

Last Friday I got my MIL to help me cook Chicken Pong Teh again. Chicken Pong Teh goes well with Sambal Belacan. So I made some during lunch time. In the evening when I came back from work, hubby told me that MIL loves it! I am so happy. :D

Here’s my Sambal Belacan recipe. You might be able to win your MIL’s heart with it. :P

Ingredients
4-5 Fresh Red Chili
4 Bird Eye Chili (to make you explode. hehe)
2 Shallots
2 Inch Belacan (Shrimp Paste)
Salt

Method
1. Fry the Belacan till dry (no oil needed, ok)
2. Cut the chili to 3-4 parts to make it easier to pound.
3. Place all the ingredients into a pounder (lesung) and pound till it all mashed up.

How to eat it
Take a small pinch of the Sambal Belacan with every spoon of rice that has been mixed with the Pong Teh gravy or take a small spoon of the Sambal Belacan and mix well with your rice. Mmmm…delicious. (writing this makes me salivate!)

About a month ago, my tenant gave me a call. He told me that some of the Taps in the apartment needs to be repaired. Told hubby about it and ask him to go and have a look at the problem. Hubby went over to the apartment to have a look. It seems that two of the taps located in the bathrooms are leaking. Besides the tap not working properly, the toilet flush also is not working. Hubby had to buy two new sets of taps to replace the existing ones. I asked him what types of tap that he bought for the apartment. He said that at first he wants to buy the cheap quality taps but upon careful consideration he bought a better quality taps. Since it will last longer it will save him from having to go over frequently to the apartment.

The same goes for our house taps. After having to change the bathroom tap frequently because it leaks, hubby decided to buy a good quality tap with nice design. Now the tap is working well for quite some time. Well, if you need to find good quality taps, check out Taps4Less.com. Not only do they sell taps but also a variety of other products for your bathroom and kitchen equipments.

I got so mad with my eldest yesterday that I told her if she asked for more toys, I am just going to take the cane and beat her! I am not going to say, “No”. Just take the hanger and cane. I uses hanger as a cane, you see. The red mark goes off faster than the rattan cane.

Well, this is what happened. I have been very patient with her all this while. She hardly keeps her toys. She will promise me that she will but she did not do as promised. So I told her that if she does not want to keep her toys, I am going to throw them into the rubbish been. She said, “Yes”!!! That caused my blood to boil.

It took her quite sometime to digest my warning. “You don’t ever ask Mommy to buy toys again. Mommy will just take the hanger and cane you!” Then she told me in a very gentle voice, “Mommy, I want to pick up and keep all my toys.”

That really cools me down. Now I am thinking of what to buy for her. :D Maybe I try to shop online this time. I am browsing at CouponChief.com for coupon codes and good deals available. Children toys are quite cheap but sometimes shipping cost is more than the toys’ cost. I noticed that with KBToys coupon code, I can get free shipping up to 800 items. Going to check out what are the items. Toodle!

When I first met hubby, he was the bartender in the restaurant that we worked. The best thing of having a bartender boyfriend is you can enjoy cocktails almost everyday (psst…boss don’t know. Hehe). He loves making the Mixed Drinks Cocktails. The one I like the most is A Few Of My Favorite Things, a mixture of Amaretto Almond Liqueur, Bailey’s® Irish Cream, Kahlua® Coffee Liqueur, Vanilla Liqueur, Butterscotch Schnapps, Vodka & Milk.

Sometimes when we do not have customer at night and the boss is way, you know, when the cat leaves, the rats come out, we have the time of our life playing Drinking Games like the coin drinking game called the Spinner. Thank God none of us become alcohol addicts! Well, if you like to try making your own cocktail, there are hundreds of Mixed Drink Recipes from SuperCocktails.com.

Since my son doesn’t want his mommy’s milk anymore, my body is slowly but surely expanding! I think due to the hormonal change, I have better appetite and I ate as much as I want. Least that I know that I don’t get help from my son anymore to “suck” out those extra calories that I take.

Thank God I found MyFitnessPal. With their calorie counter I am able to track how many calories in the food that I eat and how much can I loose them thru certain kind of exercise. I can also find out how many calories burned from a list of exercises that is available in the site. Hmm…I must start adding my favorite food in the food diary. All this are for free, you know. :)

What will be the perfect gifts for my colleague if I ever or finally resign from my job? Since most of them love eating, I think gift baskets would be perfect for them. For Mei Ling I would get her the chocolate gift basket. She loves chocolate. For Mona, I am not so sure of her liking as she is still new here. Maybe sweets gift basket will be nice as she has small children at home. I noticed that Shyang has been snaking quite often lately so a snack gift basket is perfect for him. Even though the boss is stingy towards us, I will not do the same to him. I will get him two golf gift baskets. One for him and one for lady boss. :)

A lawyer friend of ours desperately looking for a LA (legal assistant or lawyer) and he is asking hubby to consider the offer. Well, even though business is not doing so well, hubby is enjoying his life doing things that he like. He plays more than he works!

To him, studying has always been a nightmare to him. He hates studying. I think studying law really scares him to death! Hahaha. If he goes back to practicing law, he has to learn back everything that he left more than 7 years ago. No one wants their nightmare to become reality right.

I was thinking, if he really decided to go back to practicing law, imagine the numbers of hours of playing Mo Siang online game that he has to sacrifice. Hehe. But then, I won’t have to chase after Cari Makan opp anymore but I would have to start ironing again. You can’t wear t-shirt, jeans or slack to court! I hate don’t really enjoy ironing. Please stay put dear. :P

Whatever decision that he is going to make, I am with him.

Few days back, we (my children and I) had a swim in the baby pool. Since it was a very hot day, we ate ice cream in the pool! After we are done, I left the container on the floor and forgot to bring it to wash. The next thing I know, my girls are screaming, “Mommy!!! So many ants.” Hundreds of fire ants came out from no where to enjoy the left over ice cream. A neighbour dropped by, saw the fire ants and told me me that if your area has fire ant colonies there are bound to be termites too. Yikes! The only way that I know how to get rid of them is by scalding them with boiling water. It works, but it’s not 100% effective and often just causes the fire ants to move to a different part of the yard. Better than they coming to bite my children. :)

Frying Fish
icon1 miche | icon2 Recipe | icon4 07 25th, 2007| icon3No Comments »

At least now I have the peace of mind to leave my children alone to play in the room.

I am so bad at cooking that even frying a slice of fish I couldn’t get it right. Too scare that it won’t cook in the inside I fried it longer and it turn out to be over cooked. Dry and hard. Praise God that my children don’t mind eating the dry fish. I think they were too hungry!

Someone tell me, do I fry on slow fire or medium fire or high fire and how long does it normally take to get it just nice and juicy?

When running an internet café, we can’t depend 100% on the internet usage. The return won’t be so much. So we added a photocopier, printing and laminating service, fax, selling tidbits and drinks. However if you are the only person running the internet café, you won’t have enough hands when it comes to the time when a few people need your assistant. Tidbits and drink has been stolen when hubby/his assistant was busy entertaining other customers. To avoid this from happening again, vendstar vending machine would be able to help prevent stealing. All the tidbits and drink are kept securely in the vending machine. You want them, you insert your cash first then only you get them. No money, no food or drinks.

Saw this video when doing paid post on HerFabLife. I bookmark it and told hubby about it. I tried to fold but no avail. Least that I know that hubby let his mother watch it and get her to learn how to fold the same way plus taking video of her doing it.

You are never too old to learn new things.

Hubby then taught me how to fold. I can now! :D

However it is not so practical for me. Looks neat and nice but it will take much space in my small drawer where I kept most of our t-shirts and it easily unfold too when you lift it up.

Recently I have been hunting around for skin care products mainly for anti aging (me not getting any younger, you know), anti wrinkle, for my oily skin plus sensitive too. I tried a few but it caused more break outs. :(

Maybe I should try out the skin care products from Emerge. It gives cleaner, brighter, smoother skin upon the first application, without redness and other side effects when used as directed. Furthermore The Emerge Labs™ line has been formulated to address most major skin concerns like oily and sensitive skin.

I think I would request for their Mini Sample to see whether my skin suits their products. Do not want to spend so much and end up, I can’t use them.

See Mars on 27th August
icon1 miche | icon2 Review | icon4 07 25th, 2007| icon3No Comments »

I read in hubby’s blog that Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye on the 27th August! And no one alive would be able to see it again as the next one will only be in year 2287 unless you have telescopes to see it.

Btw, if you want but telescopes, check out Astromart.com. They have telescopes for sale. Not only that, get your latest astronomy news, classified ads and reviews of newest telescopes and equipment from them too or join their forum to discuss about cool stuff about astronomy.

Centipede. Dead.

centipede

I am the killer!

My eldest saw the centipede in my room a month ago. I tried to hit it with a metal pipe. I think I got his tail but he managed to escape by going under the cupboard. The cupboard is too heavy for me to push so I just prayed hard that it will run away when we are not around and don’t come to bite my children when we are asleep.

Last night when I entered the dry kitchen to boil water, I saw the centipede near the packet of rice. It did move. I wonder why. Quickly get the metal pipe from my room and hit it till his last breath!

Recently I bought an anti-wrinkle cream from L’Oreal. Try it a for a few days. Now it is on the dressing table collecting dust! Well, due to my sensitive skin, I have break outs due to its oiliness. I am thinking about trying the skin care cosmetics from Shira. It seems that Shira specializes in natural skin care products which are used in many professional spas and salons. Their natural skin care products are proven to produce results for every skin type. They have a few products for anti-aging and anti-wrinkle such as Vitality Oxygen, Omega 3 and Collagen Elastin. They even offer classes to those who want to learn more about skin care and we can also find spa/salons that use their range products.

When it comes to appraisal time, my lady boss will go around asking other employees what they think about me and my work. It is something like the 360 degree feedback. The actual one goes like this: You complete your own self-assessment which is compared against feedback from your colleagues, managers, customers or clients, in fact anybody whose opinion you respect and who is familiar with you and your work can be included in the feedback process. This multi-source approach can give real insight into how different groups see you as a person. One of the benefits of 360 degree feedback is, it improves communication within the organisation and encourages a more open culture where giving and receiving constructive feedback is the norm.

I have a lot of DVDs and VCDs that is collecting dust and taking up space in my bookshelf. I am not the type that will watch movies more than twice unless those movies speak to me personally. My children will watch their DVDs until they get bored of it and request me to buy new ones. So what happened to the old DVDs? It became their toys.

Sometime ago I found a website where we can trade used DVDs, CDs, Video Games, and Books. Unfortunately there’s a price to pay for it. It’s more like buy and sell used stuff. I am not interested in selling my DVDs and CDs. I would prefer to trade them for free. That is where SwitchPlanet.com come into the picture.

SwitchPlanet’s motto is Use more…waste less! They encourage people like us to trade our things with people who need to use them. Using SwitchPlanet to trade your stuff is absolutely FREE. However, you can donate any amount you choose when you request something you want from another member. All the donations go into a SwitchFund that is distributed among non-profits and charitable foundations. Well, it is not compulsory to donate if you don’t feel like it.

Why not sign up for a FREE account and create your profile today? Then list all the items you would like to switch and then add the things you want to your wish list. Then their system will let you know when another member wants something you have or when something you want is made available by another member.
