Best Credit Card Ranking

Every wonder where your credit card ranks in the US? Here’s a list I got from jd power best credit cards. All scores are based on a possible score of 1000.

1. American Express – 783
2. Discover – 751
3. Average Score for all Issuers in the Survey – 724
4. National City – 721
5. Chase – 719
6. U.S. Bank – 716
7. Washington Mutual (while it existed!) – 712
8. Wells Fargo – 709
9. Bank of America – 692
10. GE Money – 683
11. Target Visa – 682
12. Capital One – 678
13. HSBC – 667

Oh well, what happened to Citibank? Looks like for us Malaysian, we have to bring along our HSBC credit card when traveling to US. I doubt they will acknowledge Maybank credit or Hong Leong Bank Credit Card even though it has the Visa or Mastercard logo. Some shops are very suspicious.

The Rambutan Tree

resting

That is my hubby; resting after chopping down some of the branches from the rambutan tree. Can you see a hole at the bottom of the tree trunk?

close up

Close-up. The hole is getting deeper each day; eaten by the ants. This rambutan tree has to go down pretty soon.

swing

The swing is now at the durian tree.

Hubby and the compound

Hubby did not go for his football game again last Sunday. It has been four weeks he has to skip his football game. He hurt his right foot during the last game and it has taken quite a long time for his right foot to recover. He said that his right foot is still hurting and he does not want to take any risks. So he stayed at home Sunday evening.

As expected of him, staying at home does not mean just sitting down doing nothing. There are a lot of things that have to be done around the house. The garden is taken over by tall grass (weeds) and the fruit orchards needs to be cleared too. Times like these he needs gardening tools that would make his work easier. Of course we would love to have Stonebank Ironcraft gazebos and bowers in our compound. That would definitely make our compound a nicer and beautiful place to spent our evenings. But the demands of work at the shop does not permit my husband to spend time on the compound.

The day before, he managed to cut the grass in the house compound though it went out of gasoline after half an hour. He opted to use the weed killer instead. Although it is not good to use weed killer, the practicality of it over the grass cutter makes it a better choice if you have a big compound like mine. So he sprayed weed killer on the tall grass while I went down to the petrol station to get more gasoline.

Now, he needs a chainsaw to cut down the big rambutan tree that is rotting inside. That rambutan tree has provided cool shade to us for many years. My children sat at the swing under the tree and it would be sad to see it being chopped down. But it is better to cut it down than risking the lives of my children. Maybe by the end of this week, the old faithful rambutan tree would be no more.

How To Roll Pineapple Tarts

Before I learn how to make the rolled pineapple tarts, I always wonder how do they actually roll them.

If you are wondering the same too, watch the above video. That is my 5.5yo girl rolling the pastry. Very simple right?

Well, that was done just now and we made 98 pcs of the rolled pineapple tarts. This time I added a lil bit of egg white so that it will be more crunchy and not so fragile. And bake them in the electric oven. Result; more crunchy and not moist. I still prefer the texture of the pastry being baked in a gas oven.

Rolled Pineapple Tarts For Sale Too!

My sister just called. She wanted to promote my rolled pineapple tarts too!

It is hard to estimate how many I can make with 400g for flour because today is only my 2nd time baking it and the sizes are inconsistent too.

Still have to estimate right? Business cannot push aside since I need as much side income as I could get. So, after my rough estimation, I am going to sell them at RM15 per bottle; quantity around 35-40 pcs per bottle. It so happened that just now, I packed one bottle of 40 pcs for my cousin. :)

So I called up my sister to inform her about the price but my mom told her that she saw others selling at RM16.50 per bottle. Oh well, maybe their bottle is bigger or their tarts are bigger. I sell according to my cost of small scale baking.

Profit won’t be that much; dunno whether enough for me to buy one home theater lighting for hubby’s office. ;)

Rolled Pineapple Tarts

Melts in your mouth; not in your hand.

tarts

Not bad for first timer eh? :)

I got the pastry recipe from Google search; can’t remember from who’s cooking blog!

The pastry recipe:
300g Wheat Flour
50g Corn Flour
30g Custard Flour Powder
20g Milk Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
2 Tbs Castor Sugar (i omit this coz the jam is already sweet!)
2 Egg Yolks
250g Butter

As I was making the above tarts, my mom told my dad that we should make some for CNY, he shakes his head (still prefer the Nyonya pineapple tarts).

Today, I went to collect my pineapple tarts, my mom told me that my dad said that it is very nice. My youngest sister took one small container home. She said that my pastry is nice compared to others that she tried before which is too dry.

I think it is due the to type of oven that they use. I used the gas oven. Electric oven tend to turn the pastry dry but cookies can last longer when bake using electric oven.

Christmas Gift

Christmas is just around the corner. Are all your Christmas gifts ready? I did not prepare any gift this year. Not even for my hubby and children since we don’t celebrate Christmas like everyone else. Our Christmas is very quite; just attend church service and if got friend invite for Christmas Open House, then I will just hop over to the nearest supermarket to buy them a box of chocolate. Even though I have a few unused promotional products, I would never give them as Christmas gift like some of my previous church members did! Looks so cheapskate!

Relocate or VSS

Due to the economic downturn, many companies are retrenching their high paying employee and reducing their working days to 3 to 4 days a week only. Sad to know that one of my uncles is affected. He was working in a MNC. He was given an option whether to be relocated to another state or opt for the VSS. He is not willing to leave his family of 5 here and chose the VSS. Now he is looking for any tech jobs or any job that would bring some income for his family. Maybe I should introduce him to blogging!

Ovulation Calendar

When I was at the clinic waiting for my blood to be sucked out then drink a glass of sugar water for the blood sugar level test, I had a small chat with one of the mothers. She is the same age as me but she has a 15 years old, 11 years old, 3 years old, 2 years old and she is 7 months pregnant! That’s the advantage of getting married and start to have children at a very young age; you can have a big gap in your pregnancy and have more children before the age of 35.

Pineapple Tarts Jam

jam

Yesterday my mom cook the pineapple tarts jam but I didn’t manage to take picture of the making. Today, I told her to wait for me but when I arrived, she told me about my late aunt who sold her Nyonya Laksa, Nyonya Chang and Nyonya Otak-Otak recipe for RM5k each! She just got to know about it and reluctant to let me blog about the making of her pineapple tarts jam.

Sorry to disappoint you but you won’t find any pineapple tarts jam recipe here. But you can buy from me. :D I just sold to Chinnee, Msau and Chooi Peng, a kilo each. Do visit them this CNY! The price, I have yet to finalize coz hubby told me that I am selling it too cheap!
