Before I go out to pack dinner for my family, I told my eldest girl that if she is really hungry she is to ask the maid to cook instant noodle for her.
When I came home, I saw an empty plate with some grain of rice covered with dark soy sauce. I know there is no more eggs in the house so she can’t be eating fried egg with soy sauce (my children’s favorite – fried egg with dark and light soy sauce). I asked the maid what did she feed my daughter. She told me that my daughter insisted that she give her rice with soy sauce to the extend that my daughter scolded her for not giving in to her request.
Let’s hear what the other party has to say. Must be fair right?
My daughter told me that she asked the maid to cook instant noodle for her but she refused, telling her to wait till 8pm. If I did not come home by then, then only she will cook instant noodle for her. The maid knows that whenever possible, no instant noodle for my children. Cannot scold the maid for refusing to let my daughter eat instant noodle coz I did not instruct her before I left to cook instant noodle if they request for it.
But why did she let my daughter eat prison food??? Rice with dark soy sauce is much better than instant noodle? Why can’t she get her to wait till I come home? I came home 10mins before 8pm! I really pity my hungry girl.
Instead of scolding the maid, I scolded my daughter for demanding prison food from the maid. Warned her to never ever eat rice with soy sauce only again.
I am feeling bad now. I should have scolded the maid.

oh gosh!!! how could she? i mean the maid.. she so scared of you? but to them, rice is a privilege, i guess.. to them, eating rice is better than eating instant mee.. maybe..
poor girl..
next time keep some biscuit at home, at least she can eat them when she is hungry.
Don’t feel so bad…it’s not as terrible as it seems…
my picky eater little son has eaten rice with soy sauce on countless occasions, only because he CHOSE to.
Poor gal. I can eat rice with soya sauce if the soya sauce is steam with fish. Hehehehe…:P
can’t blame the maid. better that she follows strictly, if she makes her own decision or judgement you’ll hv host of other problems.. but always leave stuff like milo and biscuits to yr kids.. and to be taken anytime lor.. I’ll be so sum thoong if my kid is left hungry,, as mine is real sau mang kai and don’t like eating. hunger is not in her vocab.
eh…. fyi.. i used to love rice w soya sauce when i was a kid. and that drove my mom up the wall.
Aiyo… poor girl. If you got milk at home, can drink that too.
Can’t blame the maid also as you have once told her not to cook instant noodle for the kids.
fyi, we do have lots of snacks like biscuit, bread, fruits and drinks at home but when it comes to lunch and dinner, this daughter of mine wants rice or noodle. all the above are not real food to her. (just like her daddy!)
i just don’t understand why the maid refused instant noodle to her but not rice with soy sauce.
i reckon maids rather stick to instruction than to figure out which is better. dont stress it la…tell the maid the alternative next time. at least she knows that she has another option. some maids are like robots, do only as told…dont really think too much into it.
