The Best Satay Celup in Melaka

I am craving for Satay Celup and N.O., I am not pregnant again. :P I will normally get my Satay Celup from Jalan Ong Kim Wee. I can’t remember the Satay Celup shop name but it is the first shop from your left (you standing facing the Satay Celup shops). So far, that is the best Satay Celup for me. The shop is very pack during weekends and I will definitely stay away from the Satay Celup shop during weekends and school holidays. Some said Capitol serves better Satay Celup but I have not been there for a VERY long time due to distance and parking.

As of now, it is not convenient for me to eat Satay Celup at any Satay Celup shop because I have a newborn who is fully breastfeeding. Can you imagine me eating Satay Celup while carrying my baby? Tak pasal, pasal, she will get to taste the Satay Celup gravy too or even worst, got burnt by the hot gravy. Stroller? Still have not train her to sleep in the stroller but at the Satay Celup shop, the tables are all very close together one. No space for my stroller.

So how to satiate my craving for Satay Celup? Easy only…just have to do some shopping. Buy the Satay Celup paste, some fishball, meatballs, veggies and make my own Satay Celup. Who want to join me? Am thinking to do it this Saturday if hubby is around. ;)

Dodol in the Making

Even though it has been raining since early this morning, it did not hinder the men of this house to make (kacau) Dodol.

dodol making

They did the kacau-ing under the rambutan trees covered with a canvas tent. To me, it kinda good that it is raining now. No sweats dropping into the dodol this year.

durian dodol

Too bad, I can’t eat the dodol because it contains coconut milk which is a no-no for breastfeeding mommy; baby can get colic you know; too much wind. Maybe I’ll just try a pinch of it. If not “kempunan” nanti. :D

Next, we need to get some Baldwin hardware for our new gazebo.

Kuih Bakul, Kuih Belanda and Kuih Ros

The Year of the Rabbit is coming soon. I am sure most of you are busy preparing CNY cookies, doing spring cleaning and upgrading your home to welcome this Chinese New Year.

As for us, we have renovated our kitchen to make it more spacious and neater. We are planning to build another pangkin too. MIL, SIL and maid made some Kuih Bakul, Kuih Belanda and next in the line is Kuih Ros.

I tasted the Kuih Bakul and now munching on the rejected Kuih Belanda as I am typing this. :) I surely need the fat burners after the CNY celebration is over.

Simple Bread Pudding Recipe

Thanks to a blogger mommy, I tried baking something new last Sunday. Unfortunately, I am the only person in the house who enjoyed it. :(

I made bread pudding with longan. It is so simple to make a bread pudding.

Get 6 slices of bread and butter them. Cut them up into 4 parts. Any shape that you like. Arrange them nicely in the baking tray. Then go whisk 2 eggs with 200ml of milk, 2-3 tbsp of sugar and 1 tsp of Vanilla essence. Pour them onto the bread and let it soak for a while. Sprinkle some sugar on it. Top it up with your favorite fruit, cheese or raisins. Bake at 200′C for 20-30mins. You can eat them warm or cold. :)

If you are currently on oily skin treatment, don’t think eating this bread pudding do you any harm coz it is oil-less. ;)

Kuih Bongkong

kuih bongkong

Kuih Bongkong is one of my favorite Nyonya delicacies. It is made of rice flour and sugar (fine sugar + Gula Melaka). I like to eat them hot or direct from the fridge when it is still very cold.

I have yet to learn from my mom how to make Kuih Bongkong. ;)

More Than Just Fried Chilli

Finally hubby gets bored with eating the same dish almost everyday that is Ikan Goreng Chilli Garam. When I first stepped into this house, I see Ikan Goreng Chilli Garam almost every other day. According to MIL, her sons like to eat them and they don’t mind eating the same dishes every day!

As age is catching up, his taste bud has changed. Fried chilli does not make him salivate anymore. Dry dishes like fried chilli is hard to swallow for him. Hubby wants different dishes every day if possible. Since the maid is around now, his wish comes true. Not that the maid is a good cook. She is not, unfortunately. :( But now, we have a helper to help us prepare the ingredients. It is because, other dishes other that fried chilli needs more preparation of the ingredients.

So far, we have cooked Chicken Pong Teh and Sek Ark for him and today, I cooked Chicken Kurma. :D Maybe we will do curry fish tomorrow. ;) Soon, he will sure need hoodia gordonii.

Greens from Our Mini Farm

At my house, we have 2 types of farm; the real “dunno how many acres” of banana farm) and a mini farm started by our ex-maid and MIL before she (the maid) left us for good.

This is the fruit of their labor…

okra

We like them steamed. Since they are fresh from the farm; they tasted so sweet. :) MIL and hubby likes eating them with the light soy sauce and pounded chili padi. I like eating them with sambal belacan with some tamarind juice. Since we have plenty of them, we have steamed okra for lunch almost every other day!

Besides okra, we have a row of long beans too but they are not matured enough to be harvested. Maybe in a few days time. :)

Malaysian Jamie Oliver on TV3

During a wedding hubby and I attended last Sunday, we were seated with strangers. We were unhappy about our sitting arrangement in the first place coz we were really hoping to be seated with our long time no see friends.

At the end of the wedding we were glad to have met such an interesting and fun family. There were 8 of them. Father, Mother, 3 sons, a daughter, a daughter in law and a grandson who is hardly 1mo! They are of mix parentage; look more Mat Salleh to us. The boys are so handsome! Thank God I am happily married. The one that has a baby got married at 19yo and he is the most handsome. ;) This family is running a Homestay in Alor Gajah.

Anyway, all the boys can cook and the eldest son; the most Mat Salleh looking, will be cooking on TV3 starting this Sunday at 5.00pm, Jamie Oliver style. Be sure to watch him ya. I mean the show. kekekeke.

Happy Fasting and Happy Feasting

The Ramadhan month is here! To non Muslim like me, it is a month of Feasting on Malay goodies every evening. No need to wait till Pasar Malam day to enjoy good Malay delicacies. I started my Feasting Month by enjoying some Epok Sayur just now. Yum!

When I was at the stall just now, I was so tempted to plonk my butt on their contemporary furniture to savor each of their goodies. Unfortunately, my tummy reminded me that it does not have much space for everything. Be patience, there is 20 over days to go. One day, one kuih. ;)

Rambutan Fever

The Rambutan season is here and we have been eating red rambutans and yellow rambutans every single day; for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I dunno why our tropical seasonal fruits are mostly heaty fruits. Due to it, my 14mo baby is down with fever. My 4yo is also down with fever. My girls and I are sniffing away now. I am making us drink lots of water every day so that we won’t have sore throat. If we have NC short term health insurance here, I’ll might purchase it and admit ourselves into the hospital to get better care so that we can heal fast, fast.
